Das Staatstheater Mainz hat die Ernennung von Annabelle Bonnéry zur neuen Tanzdirektorin ab der Spielzeit 2027/28 bekanntgegeben. Sie wird die Nachfolge von Honne Dohrmann antreten, der nach einer erfolgreichen und prägenden Ära im Juli 2027 in den Ruhestand geht.
Die Vorstellung von Annabelle Bonnéry erfolgte offiziell im Rahmen einer Aufsichtsratssitzung, bei der auch Intendant Markus Müller, Oberbürgermeister Nino Haase und Staatssekretär für Kultur Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hardeck anwesend waren. Müller lobte Bonnéry als visionäre Künstlerin, deren kompromisslose Ansprüche und mutige künstlerische Vision perfekt mit dem Geist von tanzmainz übereinstimmen. „Die außergewöhnliche kreative Vielfalt eines ‚Ortes der Entstehung‘ und die hohe künstlerische Qualität des Ensembles machen tanzmainz zu einem Leuchtturm im zeitgenössischen Tanz“, so Müller. „Annabelle verkörpert die Haltung und das Engagement, die diese Erfolgsgeschichte fortführen werden.“
Unter der Leitung von Markus Müller hat sich tanzmainz seit 2014 international etabliert und gastierte in bedeutenden Kulturmetropolen wie Tokio, New York, Montreal und Paris. Die Nachfrage nach Gastspielen wächst stetig und unterstreicht die große Strahlkraft der Compagnie.
Die Choreografin und Tänzerin Bonnéry äußerte sich begeistert zu ihrer neuen Aufgabe: „tanzmainz gehört zu den führenden zeitgenössischen Tanzcompagnien Europas, bekannt für seine mutige künstlerische Vision und ein vielseitiges Ensemble. Es ist mir eine Ehre, das inspirierende Werk von Honne Dohrmann fortzusetzen. Oberbürgermeister Nino Haase und Staatssekretär Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hardeck begrüßten die Entscheidung ebenfalls und hoben Bonnérys starke ästhetische Vision, ihr Engagement für gesellschaftliche Fragestellungen sowie ihre internationale Vernetzung hervor – Eigenschaften, die tanzmainz weiter profilieren werden.

Annabelle Bonnéry to Lead tanzmainz from 2027/28 Season
The Staatstheater Mainz has announced that Annabelle Bonnéry will become the new Director of Dance starting with the 2027/28 season. She will succeed Honne Dohrmann, who retires in July 2027 after an influential and celebrated tenure.
Bonnéry’s appointment was formally presented during a supervisory board meeting attended by Artistic Director Markus Müller, Mayor Nino Haase, and State Secretary for Culture Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hardeck. Müller praised Bonnéry as a visionary artist whose uncompromising standards and bold artistic vision align perfectly with tanzmainz’s ethos. “The extraordinary creative richness of a ‘Place of Creation’ and the high artistic calibre of the company have made tanzmainz a beacon in contemporary dance,” Müller stated. “Annabelle embodies the spirit and ambition that will carry this legacy forward.”
Since 2014, under Müller’s leadership, tanzmainz has risen to international acclaim, with guest performances in major cultural capitals such as Tokyo, New York, Montreal, and Paris. The company’s growing reputation has generated a surge of guest performance invitations worldwide.
Bonnéry, herself an acclaimed choreographer and dancer, expressed her excitement about the new role: “tanzmainz is one of Europe’s leading contemporary dance companies, known for its bold vision and versatile ensemble. I am honoured to continue the inspiring work of Honne Dohrmann. My ambition is to broaden this legacy with a diverse and dynamic repertoire that fosters dialogue between audiences and artists, particularly those engaging with pressing social issues.
