7th of July was a great night for the city of Ancona, Italy, thanks to the 11th edition of the Gran Galà di Danza, directed by Eugenia Morosanu. The cherry on top was the renowed pas-de-deux from ‘Le Parc’ by the choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, brilliantly interpreted by Maria Baranova and Jinhao Zhang, principal dancers of the Bayerische Staatsoper. It’s hard to find the words to describe such a special night at the Teatro delle Muse di Ancona. Twelve international dance stars enchanted the audience during this gala which is now a tradition for the whole city. Those who know the Artistic Director, Eugenia Morosanu, are aware of the high level and the professionalism she puts in the organization of this event alongside the direction of the school Fondazione Regionale Arte nella Danza città di Ancona. Nothing was left to chance from the first grand pas-de-deux taken from ‘Sleeping Beauty’ with Ada González, principal at Bucharest National Opera, and Ovidiu Matei Iancu, principal and artistic director of the Corps de Ballet at the Timișoara National Opera, up to the conclusion with ‘Le Parc’. Each one of the pieces was so awe-inspiringly performed that was received by an enthralled audience who never failed to applaude on the open scene.

The evening opened with a dance greeting from students who took part in the International Dance Summit workshops. During such highly formative study week of classical, modern and contemporary dance, these students had been able to train under the expert supervision of international teachers such as Joan Boix, director of the CDC ballet school in Barcelona, Giulia Barbone, a successful performer and choreographer, and Caterina Rago, founder and artistic director of CRDANCE, LLC and of the educational program ‘Tecniche di Danza Moderna’. After that it was Gina Barnes‘ turn to take the stage. The young Japanese talent had previously won the 2024 edition of the Art of Dance Competition: a competition involving Canadian, Japanese and Italian students.
The theatre was then ready to welcome the twelve international guest artists: Ovidiu Iancu Matei and Ada González; Erica Pinzano soloist of the Ljubljana Opera Ballet (Slovenia) and Kleber Rebello, soloist of the Ballet du Capitole (France); Marian Cristian Șușu soloist of the Bucharest National Opera (Romania) and the Bucharest National Opera dancer Maria Sole Bartolini, previously trained at Fondazione Regionale Arte nella Danza città di Ancona; Maria Baranova and Jinhao Zhang; Ekaterine Surmava principal of the Dortmund Ballet and Philip Fedulov principal of the Latvian National Ballet; Debora Barontini and Eleonora Brasili soloists of the VisBallet, dance company of the Fondazione Regionale Arte nella Danza città di Ancona.
The evening offered two more highlights: “Bodies and Emotions” proposed by Ada González along with Ovidiu Iancu Matei, who also choreographed the piece and Debora Barontini’s duet ‘Pour toi’ created for Marian Cristian Șușu and Maria Sole Bartolini.
