Happy Birthday, John Neumeier!

With a big ‘surprise’ Gala with guests from all over the world, John Neumeier was celebrating his career and creativity and his eighty years on the Hamburg Opera scene on 24th February.

A goal of life lived, as he writes in the notes that introduce the show, in total devotion to the art of dance – which for him is not only creation but also tradition and development, past and above all future. The Gala ‘The World of John Neumeier’ is a charity new project of the American master, who want to create an independent institute -a study center on the history of dance – in which to place his famous collection, to allow scholars and researchers from all over the world a convenient introduction of the precious material collected by John Neumeier. As we know, in fact, the American artist is the greatest private collector of objects and testimonies related to the great dancer Vaslav Nijinsky and the world of Ballest Russes; but not only. Its library contains over ten thousand texts on dance and prints, photos, videos and artistic objects from the seventeenth century to today are kept in the headquarters of the John Neumeier Foundation.
