Rémy Fichet Assumes Directorship of the Leipzig Ballet in 2024/25

Rémy Fichet has been appointed as the new Director of the Leipzig Ballet and will assume its artistic leadership at Oper Leipzig starting from the 2024/25 season. He succeeds Ballet Director and Chief Choreographer, Mario Schröder, and is set to uphold the tradition of the Leipzig Ballet, a legacy established by Uwe Scholz. In the upcoming seasons, the ballet is planning collaborations with innovative choreographers from the international dance scene. Tobias Wolff, the Director of Oper Leipzig, expressed his gratitude towards Fichet for choosing their institution. He stated, “We are consciously transitioning to a curatorial-artistic direction at the Leipzig Ballet. I am truly looking forward to the new creative formats and choreographies with the company.”
Oper Leipzig will introduce Fichet as the new Director of the Leipzig Ballet and present his programme for the 2024/25 season during its annual press conference on March 8, 2024.

Rémy Fichet, hailing from Amiens, France, is a distinguished alumnus of the Paris Opera Ballet School. After showcasing his talent at the Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris for two years, he joined the Leipzig Ballet in 2000. His journey with the ensemble spanned eight years, culminating in a soloist role in 2008.

Post his illustrious career as a dancer, Fichet continued to contribute to the world of dance and the Leipzig Ballet. He served as a scheduler and project coordinator, and since 2012, he has been the Artistic Production Manager. His leadership and organizational skills have been instrumental in the success of the Leipzig Ballet.

Fichet further enhanced his qualifications with two years of part-time management studies and a Master of Arts degree, which he completed with distinction at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden in 2023.

A pioneer in his field, Fichet introduced specialised dance medicine services for the ballet ensemble at Oper Leipzig. He is a strong advocate for long-term, individually tailored support for dancers and the upcoming generation of choreographic creatives. His vision and dedication continue to shape the future of the Leipzig Ballet.
