The 45-year-old dancer, who is married to the well-known violinist Vadim Repin, trained at the Vaganova Academy and danced as a first soloist with the Mariinsky Ballet in St. Petersburg until 2003 before joining the Bolshoi. From 2007 to 2011, she was a member of the Duma, the Russian parliament; as a supporter of Vladimir Putin, she belongs to his United Russia party.<\/p>\n<p>Zakarova has won numerous prizes and performed all over the world; there are also numerous DVD and film recordings of well-known ballets featuring the tall, slender dancer. In 2011, she set up a foundation to promote the arts, which awards scholarships to the best ballet students, and she has also hosted several ballet competitions on Russian television.
