His contract was due to expire at that time anyway. The search for a successor is already underway, but now Kasper Holten, Director of the Opera House, has surprisingly appointed former soloist and ballet master Amy Watson (43) as the new director of the ballet, as Hübbe has reported long-term illness.
American Watson graduated from the School of American Ballet in New York and danced for two years with the Suzanne Farrell Ballet before moving to Denmark in 2000. There, she rose to the rank of First Soloist, and since her retirement in 2021, she has been a ballet master. Her appointment as interim director is now being made so that necessary decisions can be made during ongoing operations, according to Theatre Director Holten.

Amy Watson in George Balanchines “Agon” © Costin Radu/Den Kongelige Ballet 2011 Medienarchiv

According to Danish newspapers, Hübbe’s sick leave is due to allegations from former students of the theatre’s ballet school.
