Hope Muir<\/strong>, Joan and Jerry Lozinski Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada announced the Winners of the Erik Bruhn Prize: Mackenzie Brown<\/strong> (age 20) of Stuttgart Ballet and Daichi Ikarashi\u00a0<\/strong>(age 21) of The Royal Ballet, Roman Novitzky<\/strong>\u00a0of Stuttgart Ballet\u00a0is the winner of the Choreographic Prize for his specially commissioned work,\u00a0A Dialog<\/em>. The competition took place March 25, 2023 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto and was livestreamed internationally for the first time in the competition\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

Mackenzie Brown<\/strong>\u00a0from Stuttgart Ballet\u00a0performed\u00a0Grand Pas Classique<\/em>\u00a0for the classical section and\u00a0A Dialog<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Roman Novitzky<\/strong>\u00a0for the contemporary section with\u00a0Adhonay Soares da Silva<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Daichi Ikarashi<\/strong>\u00a0from The Royal Ballet performed\u00a0Diana and Acteon<\/em>\u00a0pas de deux for the classical section and\u00a0Things left unsaid<\/em>, a new work by\u00a0Joshua Junker<\/strong>, for the contemporary section with\u00a0Viola Pantuso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Roman Novitzky<\/strong>\u00a0created\u00a0A Dialog<\/em>, commissioned by Stuttgart Ballet,\u00a0set to\u00a0Sinnerman<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Nina Simone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All participants receive a medal and the winners are each awarded a prize of $7,500 and a sculpture by Canadian artist\u00a0Jack Culiner<\/strong>. The winner of the Choreographic Prize, established in 2009, also receives a Jack Culiner sculpture and a $2,500 cash prize.<\/p>\n

This year, the participating companies included American Ballet Theatre, The Royal Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada.<\/p>\n

The evening was hosted by\u00a0Rex Harrington<\/strong>, Rehearsal Director, Principal Coach and former Principal Dancer of The National Ballet of Canada.<\/p>\n
