At 70, Beijing Dance Academy dwells on past and present, plans ahead. Among the distinguished guests invited by Vladimir Malakhov are Viviana Durante, Mauro de Candia and Diana Vishneva.
Beijing – Known as the revered cradle for dancers in China, Beijing Dance Academy was first opened on Sept 6, 1954. It was the country’s first institute of dance. In the past 70 years, the Beijing Dance Academy has trained an astonishing array of accomplished dancers, choreographers and educators. Since 2022, Vladimir Malakhov has been professor and dean of the BDA for the ballet department and is implementing a strategy of strengthening the academy through human resources development, promoting the introduction of talent with soft methods and international faculty programmes.

For the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Academy this year, Malakhov personally curated the performance programmes as well as the 6th BDA Dance Forum under the motto ‘70 Years of Dance Education: Chinese Experience and Global Perspective’, attracting worldwide attention in Beijing with artists and guests from all over the world. Mauro de Candia, former artistic director of the Dance Company Theater Osnabrück and now a full-time international freelance choreographer, is one of the distinguished invited guests.
A long artistic collaboration exists between de Candia and Malakhov, in which the Italian choreographer reshaped his male version of The Dying the Swan for the famous dancer, which he then brought to stages all over the world. De Candia will be a speaker at the Dance Forum on 29 October, together with Viviana Durante (former star of the Royal Ballet and in recent years director of the English National Ballet School) and Diana Vishneva (former star of the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg, director of Dance Context) as well as Malakhov himself, bringing his contribution and insight into the importance of international exchanges.
Following this, he will hold a masterclass with a student from the Beijing Dance Academy on his solo The Dying Swan. The symposium, as well as the masterclass, will be broadcast live on platforms such as CCTV, Weibo, and the Beijing Dance Academy’s official WeChat account. Also as part of the BDA’s 70th anniversary celebrations, de Candia created a choreography entitled ‘Mein Vogel’ (My Bird), inspired by his ‘Dying Swan’ for the 20 students of the academy’s final course on music by Chinese composer Tan Dun. The premiere is expected on 7 December in Beijing.

Pekin – Die Pekinger Tanzakademie, die als Wiege der Tänzer*innen in China gilt, wurde am 6. September 1954 eröffnet. Sie war das erste Institut für Tanz in China. In den vergangenen 70 Jahren hat die Pekinger Tanzakademie eine erstaunliche Anzahl versierter Tänzer*innen, Choreograph*innen und Pädagog*innen ausgebildet. Seit 2022 ist Vladimir Malakhov Professor und Rektor der BDA für die Ballettabteilung und setzt eine Strategie zur Stärkung der Akademie durch Personalentwicklung, Förderung der Einführung von Talenten mit sanften Methoden und internationalen Dozentenprogrammen um.
Zum 70. Jahrestag der Gründung der Akademie in diesem Jahr kuratierte Malakhov persönlich die Aufführungsprogramme sowie das 6. BDA-Tanzforum unter dem Motto „70 Jahre Tanzausbildung: Chinese Experience and Global Perspective“, das in Peking mit Künstler*innen und Gästen aus aller Welt weltweite Aufmerksamkeit erregte. Mauro de Candia, ehemaliger künstlerischer Leiter der Dance Company Theater Osnabrück und heute internationaler freischaffender Choreograf tätig, ist einer der hochkarätigen geladenen Gäste.
Zwischen de Candia und Malakhov besteht eine langjährige künstlerische Zusammenarbeit, in deren Rahmen der italienische Choreograf seine männliche Version von „Der sterbende Schwan“ für den berühmten Tänzer umgestaltete, die er dann auf Bühnen in aller Welt brachte. De Candia wird beim Tanzforum am 29. Oktober zusammen mit Viviana Durante (ehemaliger Star des Royal Ballet und in den letzten Jahren Direktorin der English National Ballet School) und Diana Vishneva (ehemaliger Star des Mariinsky in St. Petersburg, Direktorin von Dance Context) sowie mit Malakhov selbst sprechen und seinen Beitrag und Einblick in die Bedeutung des internationalen Austauschs leisten.
Im Anschluss daran wird er mit einem Studenten der Pekinger Tanzakademie eine Meisterklasse zu seinem Solo The Dying Swan abhalten. Sowohl das Symposium als auch die Meisterklasse werden live auf Plattformen wie CCTV, Weibo und dem offiziellen WeChat-Account der Pekinger Tanzakademie übertragen.
Ebenfalls im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 70-jährigen Bestehen der BDA schuf de Candia eine Choreografie mit dem Titel „Mein Vogel“, inspiriert von seinem „Sterbenden Schwan“, für die 20 Studenten des Abschlusskurses der Akademie zur Musik des chinesischen Komponisten Tan Dun. Die Premiere wird am 7. Dezember in Peking erwartet.
